Dopamine Justice Alliance is building a small, carefully supported team of people with lived experience of the dopamine agonist side‑effect scandal who feel emotionally ready to stand alongside others. This “peer support and evidence” team will help victims and bereaved family members feel less alone, while also supporting them to organise the complex records that so often hold the key to understanding what went wrong.
We are looking for a small number of people who have themselves been harmed by dopamine agonist compulsive side effects, or who have lost a loved one and have had time to process the immediate shock and trauma. Peer supporters will offer confidential, non‑judgemental emotional support, drawing on their own journeys in a way that is safe for both them and the people they are helping. This is not a clinical or counselling role, but a chance to listen, validate and walk alongside others who are beginning to face what has happened in their lives.
Alongside emotional support, team members will help victims and families tackle the overwhelming task of gathering and understanding documentation. This may include guiding people through requests for medical and hospital records, helping them sort and label large bundles of notes, and showing them simple tools (such as search functions in electronic documents) to build a clear chronological picture of events. Team members will have access to examples, templates and training based on work already carried out on complex cases, including the hundreds or thousands of pages that some families must navigate.
Because this work involves highly sensitive information and painful histories, peer supporters will be carefully selected and offered clear boundaries, guidance and support. Everyone in the team will follow our privacy and data‑protection policies, use secure systems for any information they handle, and know when and how to signpost someone on for urgent or specialist help. Regular check‑ins and optional debrief spaces will be available so that no one has to carry the emotional weight of this work alone.
If you believe your own experience of the dopamine agonist scandal has reached a point where you can safely support others, and you are interested in helping with emotional support and documentation work, we would be glad to hear from you. Expressing interest does not commit you to anything; it simply begins a conversation about whether this is the right role, and the right time, for you.
